Cooking with UmmHashim Series 4: Somali Injera (canjeero)

In every Somali home around the world a mom is making canjeero (Somali injera) for breakfast for her family.

This main dish is typically a pancake-like bread, it is similar to Ethiopian injera but smaller and thinner, which might also be eaten with a stew.

Canjeero is eaten in different ways. It may be broken into small pieces with halal ghee or sesame oil and sugar added. For children, it is mixed with tea and sesame oil until mushy. Side dishes like livers and onion or suqaar may accompany it.

Here is what you need to make this traditional Somali dish.

My look: Outfit which i wore for an event.

So this pass weekend, my hubby and i went to Philly to be part of a web launching party for our friend and client Bintu Kabba (www.thebuzzklub.com).

As i said before in several of my posts, i am the type of person to make my own look and keep it budget friendly. After all, it is not the clothes that wears you, it is the person who wears it =) (something i learned from the hubby). Check out this guest post on my blog regarding men's fashion.

Here is my take on fashion at its budget friendliest ...

Cooking with UmmHashim series 3: Suqaar (Meat/Chicken)

This is one of my favorite stir fried type of dish. As i said before, it can be eaten with the Somali sabayat.

Cooking with UmmHashim Series 2: Sabayat (Somali Chapati)

Sabayat
Chapati or Sabayat is a round, layered flat bread common in most East African countries and West Asia particularly India. The bread is slightly made different in each country but basically look the same. In Somalia it is called sabayat and can be eaten as main dish or as a snack. For lunch, I usually make the dough in the morning and keep in room temperature area, before I roll the chapati out.

Cooking with UmmHashim Series 1: Somali Malawah (a close version to crepes)

I also have enjoyed cooking things and making my hubby and son learn about my ethnic cuisine. In addition to that, we all know that cooking can also save money. when you cook from scratch sometimes it can cost less than buying it a ready made version of the food.

Malawax is a famous Somali pancake that is usually eaten for breakfast. It is similar to the famous anjerro, but is usually thinner, softer, sweeter and much more oiley! This pancake is perfect for a quick breakfast or snack. It can be made and done around 20-25 minutes.

So i missed eating Malawah (crepes) and last week my mom told me she started making them every Monday as an alternative bread for breakfast. Its sweet and can be eaten with about anything.

In order to make this you need: all purpose flour, granulated sugar, eggs, oil, milk, and water.

Storage, Storage, Storage!

Every girl need to put her things in a place, but the question is where can i find storage bargain and subs for makeup, scarfs, and beauty care.

We all want to find things to put in our nick-nacks. As a mom and also a home maker, i try my best to be in budget with everything.

One of the things i had issue with is storing my hijabs (scarfs). I didn't have enough dresser drawer to store approx. 50+ scarfs. So i started asking around my friends what is the best but budget friendly hijab (scarf) organizer.

I came across this product....

My makeup for my friends wedding.

So i told you guys last week or maybe the week before, i was cordially invited to my best friends wedding.

Here is a picture of my hubby and I at the reception.

So you if know me, i have to match my eye shadows with my clothes.
